A new NBC series with more affairs & bad behavior & no redeeming factors as far as I could see, advertised during ROB ROY. There's an old wife, new wife, who is also having sex with the son, who has another woman, who has...etc. Honestly, I couldn't keep track of 30 seconds worth of information.
Guard & I just looked at each other with horror-sticken expressions, and "WHY?". My grandma would say "such filth".
[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]

Okay, I'm practically on a tirade now, but I think one of the things that made the "Titan" advertisement SO disgusting was that ROB ROY portrays such a beautiful marital relationship between Rob & Mary (Liam Neeson & Jessica Lange). Their boys are half grown, so we know they've been married quite awhile, yet they are passionate lovers (oh, the apparent convenience of a kilt!). They are protective of each other and very much a joint force in their community. She "loves the bones of him". "Ye are so fine to me, Mary" "and you to me".
Guard & I joined hands several times, as we want to echo that in our lives.
Does anyone suppose that putting a sleezy commercial next to a movie like that was deliberate? To interupt the good marital vibes the movie was putting out? (Now I sound like Dr. Laura & Rush & their societal conspiracy theories).

Well, my mom actually believed she saw my life story (H's A) on one of the TV movies, complete with the aggro with a sad tale whining and clinging to a drunk married man...
Come to think of it, my story is even more bizarre - maybe I should sell the movie rights, hmmm
Yea, I know what you mean by the ad spoiling the new togetherness - not that I am in hands holding mood with H.

Lor
You know I have gotten to the point where I stay away from the TV completely - except for the odd comedy. There really isn't too much there that hasn't got at least a little adultery in it.
And then the movies! A couple that my H met through bimbo wanted us to see "What Lies Beneath" with them. They don't seem to know about the affair. I was speechless though. Would I be the only one who noticed the story line?

I realized recently that I can actually watch affair storylines in movies and TV again. A year ago if a story about EMRs came on and I was watching with my H I was practically paralyzed. So that is one trigger that seems to be getting a lot better.

I noticed the ad for "Titans" and was appalled. I don't know the whole storyline. I just knew this lookeed like a lot of soap opera sleaze.
I live in Nashville where we have an NFL team by that name. There's even been a news story about the police granting favors to a player accused of domestic violence. And a hundred, maybe less, years ago there was a very aggressive group within the KKK named the Titans. Not to mention the Greek mythological connection. Doesn't seem to be a name I'd want connected with me.
You can call the station. You can write the sponsors, though you'd have to know who they are (would the station tell you). You can try to protest. This might fall under a bad enough category that a complaint to the FCC about it being detrimental to the community might be appropriate. The station does have to meet licensing guidelines. Fire up your friends.
[This message has been edited by cinderella (edited August 28, 2000).]
