Hi Deb and all - finally checking in. Busy day yesterday, obviously. My gov't office complex is in Rockville - quite a ways from the Pent., but the tallest structure for miles around. We were evacuated pretty soon after things started happening.<P>Schools closed today, but all gov't back to work.<P>Dave

WAT and OOOO - glad to hear you are all fine. WAT - I know exactly what building you work in now. I work in a high rise next to the USA Today buildings in Rosslyn...talk about high profile for a "hit". Never got into work yesterday... I was stuck in the HOV lanes on 95 near Glebe Rd. Looked in my rearview and realized no one was behind me...I guess somehow the road was closed just as I passed through. Ended up being able to turn around and led the pack down the wrong way on the HOV and got home pretty quick. I heard the first explosion, and felt the second (I can only assume that the second was the roof caving in since there are no reports of another explosion, except from people in Crystal City and Rosslyn, but something shook my van practically off it's wheels). The smoke was horrendous. <P>I didn't go to work today. Guess I will try tomorrow and try to find an alternate route (usually take Memorial Bridge exit off of HOV onto Washington Blvd to Rt. 110.. From what I here, Washington Blvd and 110 are closed.<P>So glad that WAT and OOOO responded. May sleep a LITTLE better tonight, but will see.<P>God Bless America. (Did you see the firefighters putting the flag on the Pentagon? Brought tears to my eyes ... well so did most everything I watched today, but seeing that was so emotional. They played the Star Spangled Banner tonight on my kid's station (Z104) and it made me cry. <P>I wonder if some how some good may come of this...raising our national concience, bringing us together? Why though does it have to take something so horrific?

Wow, Deb, you were a LOT closer than I was. My commute is pretty easy as I just drive to Shady Grove and ride the train to White Flint - my building is right across the street from the station. <P>As I write this I can see the group of helicoptors coming back from the direction of Camp David that usually indicates the Prez or some other big shot is coming back to Wash.<P>Lupo - to answer your question, I checked in with my WS before she had a chance to check in with me (the real topic was our son). But, because she knows very well where my office is (outside the beltway) and the fact that it's not military or "high" government, I wouldn't have expected her to be concerned about my safety.<P>WAT
