Hi all.
I HATE all this legalese stuff......every time I get something from my atty in the mail, I get all worked up, cause I can't make heads or tails out of it!<p>Of course, as per usual, I always get my mail late in the afternoon, when she's already left her office, and then I have to WAIT till I can ask her what any of it means. Today was no exception.<p>All the paper says is that there is a court date set, and it is in "RE: Case Management." with 15 minutes set aside for it. Short and sweet.<p>WHAT, pray tell, does "Case Management" mean?!?!?! We have no children, very little assets to argue about. At first, I was thinking that if we were ready to go before the judge for dissolution decree, it would say that. <p>So if this isn't that, (and I don't think it is) what is it? I don't know who will know, but truly, I figured some of you may have dealt with this terminology and would know what I should know.....since I'm too impatient to wait till Monday!!!<p>TIA,

Yep ~ thats where the attorneys get to figure out what steps you may need to take, and to make sure that you have filled all the requirements for your divorce. For example, in NJ, we are required to take a course on the effect of divorce on children before proceedings move forward. Case management is where they decide IF its happened, and if not, when it has to happen..etc.<p>It's mostly just making sure the bureacratic stuff gets dealt with so that your divorce is legal, etc.

A case management conference is scheduled by the court every so many days, depending on the jursidiction (here in Florida, it's every 180 days) to make sure the case is progressing. Courts are scored on how many cases are assigned to each judge, and how efficiently they move through the system.<p>Sometimes, one party will request a case management conference because the other party is dragging their feet and things are going no where.

Thanks for clarifying that. Yes, I am in SW FL. Where are you?<p>How can I tell if this is request by the court or by his atty? Or does it really matter? Do I have to attend? Or he? H lives across the state w/ow. 3 hr drive for him. I'm in North Florida, in the 8th Juducial Circuit. Up here, the parties are required to attend case manangement conferences. Read the order, it should tell you in there whether your presence is required.<p>The Orders vary between courts, so I can't tell you without seeing yours what it says, but it shouldn't be any big deal. If he lives 3 hours away, I doubt his lawyer would ask for a case management, unless they are having trouble getting documents or information from you.

If he lives 3 hours away, I doubt his lawyer would ask for a case management, unless they are having trouble getting documents or information from you.</strong><hr></blockquote><p>Ummm, ok, the only thing it says is "You are hereby notified that a conference has been scheduled before the honorable blah, blah, blah..." <p> Nowhere on the document does it say that I am remanded (or any other legalese) to attend, be there, be on call, etc. I will have to contact my atty tomorrow to see if I need to go to it. <p>It's entirely possible they are asking for documents which we have (I have) dragged my feet in turning in. BUT I did turn all of that in by Jan. 3rd. So for the court to set up this meeting on Jan. 15, to be held in Feb. makes me think it's just the "180 day" thingy. <p>Thanks again, Charynne.
