How do I trace a call that keeps coming into my home?
Every day at approx the same time (twice a day actually) we get a phone call. It comes up on the caller ID "unknown name, unknown number".
How can I trace this? How can I find out who is calling? I think it's her, because we're changed our number and no one has it. Except for a few friends. The problem is that she is friends with them also. If she asked to borrow their cell phone she could look up the number on the cell and know it was our new number.
I want to find out because if it is I'm going to get a restraining order against her. I feel threatened

Hi, I had a similar problem as yours and i went to my phone company and got the sprint privacy id. it doesn't trace a call, but it won't let a call come through to your house unless it is identified. If a number that would normally say "unavailable" "out of area" or "unknown" tries to call you, the sprint privacy id intercepts the call and makes the person say their name or the company they are calling from. It then plays the name for you and allows you to decide if you want to accept or reject the call. if you do not want to accept, you just press the number 2 and the caller will hear an automated message. it's worked great for my home phone and those unknown calls have dropped drastically. Now I just wish there was a way to get it on the cell phone b/c now I'm starting to get "private" call hang ups on my cell phone.

I know about that. We can't get it because my H is a cop. We have a certain kind of block/unlisted number that is not compatible with that system.
Any other suggestions???

A friend of mine is good friends with the OW and sometimes sends us both e-mails. I changed e-mail addys but forgot to ask my friend to "Blind-Copy" me anytime she wants to send us both e-mails of the same funny story - and voila! the OW decided to e-mail me at an addy she had not been directly given. I totally freaked and took the fight public at that point.
These creatures are pathetic!

Just a shot in the dark - perhaps your phone company has a service that covers detailed billing of not only the calls you make but also the calls that are incoming.

margue you can call your phone company and have the calls traced. All phone companies have a department that deals with harassing calls. You might have to agree to file charges against the person making the calls though. Might be worth checking into.

I called they said I had to keep track of them for a while and then file a charge against the person and that a judge could order the file opened. I was hoping some ingenius computer person could think of another way.. Have you tried *69? Is that the one where it will call back the number that just called you? Maybe I have the numbers wrong. Good luck, it would drive me crazy

I had this problem a while back ago.
There is a difference between a RESTRICTED # and an UNKNOWN #.
RESTRICTED means that they have intentionally blocked their # from the Caller ID.
UNKOWN means that the # is simply unknown. It's usually a # that is not recognized by your telephone services caller id feature. Not in your area.
There is a possibility that the unknown # that keeps showing up on your caller id even though nobody is there when you pick up the phone is a computer from a telemarketing service calling your house to see if someone is home at a certain time of the day.
Their computers will send information about whether the phone is answered or not answered back to the main frame to let the telemarketers know that someone answers or doesn't. Which is why it calls at pretty much the same time every day.
If you don't think that is the case then you first have to go to the autorities and file a complaint before a phone company will trace a call.
The whole thing with a restraining order.......what exactly has she done to YOU to warrant YOU filing one?
This could turn out to be a MAJOR LB.

HI I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 17 YEARS,AND MY WIFE HAS BEEN UNFAITHFUL,AND CHEATING OFF,AND ON.I HAVE to play detective, and phone recording was my first way of catching her.I bought a small device at radio shack for $25 about 10 years ago,and you connect it to a phone line which i did down the celler with cassett recorder, and then went down the next day,and took the cassett to my car and listen to the awful heartbreaking things that made me sick. I can answer any more ? you have feel free to write back. Steve
