I took myself off Zoloft yesterday (was on it twice a day) so my advice and opinion may be a bit more goofy than usual.
Trying to do this recovery thing as drug free as possible. Still taking Trazadone/Deseril nightly for sleep, though. Hopefully that will be the next one that can go.

hahaha... thanks for the warning! I took myself off about 4 weeks ago. THe first 2 weeks were pretty loopy on the roller coaster, but I'm fine now. I also switched immediately to St. Johns Wort. I think it helped even things out a bit. Good luck!

Do those things really help? I understand the Harleys recommend it, but I haven't asked for it...yet.

Spacecase - YES! They REALLY help! I was stubborn at the beginning and didn't want them... but when I went in for my regular gyn visit, she asked how i was - and I started bawling.... LOL... (pretty obvious how I was doing, huh?) She very gently offered me a prescription - I took her up on it.
P.S. I actually tapered myself off... took half the dosage for a while... then none. YES, Lor, I recommend we all check with our Doc on that as well.
[ April 17, 2002: Message edited by: Faith1 ]

My 16 year old D takes it ot help with hormonitis.

Is zoloft the same thing as Paxil or Prozak? I was on those for a year once and don't remember that year at all! It is just gone! And when I stopped taking the anti-d's the depression came back in all it's glory, just waiting to be addressed.
Strangely though, when I cleaned up my diet and started exercising the depression went away magically and has not returned. I am not saying that is always the case, but my diet was pretty bad and was loaded with chemical laden, refined foods. That seemed to cause the depression rather than personal problems, because I subsequently went through my divorce [20 year marriage] and sudden death of son and never experienced any depression.

Just a word or warning, it can be dangerous to stop taking antidepressants cold turkey. It’s best to slowly reduce the dosage over a few weeks. Even better, talk to a doctor or a pharmacist about it before going cold turkey.

Hi Melody,
Zoloft, Paxil and Prozac are all in the SSRI family of anti-deps, but they are not the same as one another in terms of properties and effect.
I don't know precisely their differences to one another, but I'm sure there is a website that offers that info. I'll do some research and get back to you, Hon.
Maybe if we're lucky K will show up and help us out.
Lv, Jo
[ April 17, 2002: Message edited by: Resilient ]

Ya, I may go back to taking one a day. My head is a mess at times (dizzy, heat flashes, vertigo, etc.)

Mr. Bunky:
I am hoping to do the same with Paxil but I am sincerely concerned about the side effects of withdrawal. I've slowly reduced my dosage to 10 mg per day.
I have found this place to be a great help and support network for those taking anti-ds:
Link
hg
