I am going to write my answer in point form, otherwise it will go on forever!
* H and I were living apart because of his work...we knew we were having problems at this time too
*while he was gone the first week, I saw Oprah's show on this book, it made a lot of sense to me
* I evaluated my shadow beliefs, as the author calls those negative things we believe about ourselves, and could pinpoint the source of them, and began to exorcise them from my beliefs about myself
* I was eager to share this wonderful revelation with my H when he came back on the weekend
* He got back and told me he was having an affair
* We had a recovery time of sorts for six months...in that time I read about a third of the book, but Dr Phil's relationship rescue became my bible back then
* H left anyway, saying he was glad I was changing, but it wasn't for him anymore - he didn't want the marriage
I still have the book and want to work through it when I feel strong enough again. It has a lot of exercises to work through, and really makes a lot of sense. But ultimately it did not help our recovery, because H did not care if I improved or not.
Wishing you better luck.
Jacky
