Al Gore once claimed his and Tipper's marriage was the basis for the syrupy, sappy "Love Story" that was the rage way back when. Wow, between this and inventing the internet that guy's amazing!!! In a grandiose, off-the-wall sort of way.

C'mon, nobody D's after 40 years unless something is stinking somewhere. There's more to the story and it's bound to leak out sooner or later...... I'm with Chai. Happened to me after 37 years...but not being the demure political wife Tipper is, there was no quiet "amicable" divorce-- I shouted "FOUL!" from the rooftops.

Given the discussion on other threads about who leaves who and why, I'm going to put my supposition out there that this is Tipper's doing.
If Al had been the wayward one, I suspect it would be all over the media. This smells to me of the "let's keep our dirty laundry a secret" and he'll let her slide out of the marriage by paying her extortion to keep it that way.

6-3-07 - Dday#2 Found out NC never took place and A never ended. Found MB NC promised again, but WH would not write NC letter.
9/07 - Dday #3. Still lying and sneaking around. Plan B implemented
WH wants nothing to do with me
Divorced as of 12/09 after 36 years

He speculated, based on statistics, that it is likely Tipper who initiated the divorce. Also speculated (both yesterday and today, IIRC) that an affair is likely to be involved. He talked more in generalities than really about this specific situation, i.e., "It is likely that she is the one initiating the divorce." He talked a lot about the POJA and how a public figure should apply it. Joyce said they'll continue to talk about the situation on future shows.
