ok, stbxh and I are now having debate on the term of abandonment, and I want to be clear headed with my response.
When we have been married for 15 years and have 8 children together...then one person leaves the state (stbxh that is ) and since Mar 3, 2003 has given a total of $500 in "child support" with note attached to pay his portion of the bills too. Does it or does it not show abandonment of his family and responsibilities.......just checking????????? would like your definitions please....

Abadonment...
Marriage is a joint contract between a man and a woman to share assets: monetary, physical, and debt. As the marriage goes along, joint assets are created for which you are both equally responsible:
- Loans
- Accounts
- Credit
- Children
Abandonment is when one party walks away from any and/or all of these responsibilities without making arrangements to cover their half of the responsibility. They "abandon" their contractual obligation.

Mx8 - I wonder if you were asking for the "legal" definition of abandonment. If so, check out the WWW.divorcesource.com website. Here is a link directly to their "abandonment" page Abandonment main article This site also has state-specific info which you may want to check into. But I do want to say one thing - this is all VERY fresh and new to you, and I would not do anything in haste. Work on YOU and the kids right now.

No that does not constitute abandonment. Usually most states require he leave for a period of 1 year and not pay anything. Not to mention you have already filed for divorce. You know where he is as well. He has sent some money. Nope, not abandonment - legally anyway.
Get a temporary order for support until your case goes to court.
